Designing Your Future™ Intensive 3 day programme

This programme is aimed at people who have found themselves looking for the next step in their career as a result of redundancy, business closure or simply disenchantment with work.

This is what Jim Nolan, IE Network Manager says:

The IE Network first used the services of Una Hearne in September 2011 and form that time we have built a great professional relationship. Una’s style of delivery and understanding of what our clients require is fantastic, so much so that in November 2011 we piloted her “Designing Your Future” (DYF) course, a course which she designed and delivered in an expert and professional manner.

The DYF course was such an overwhelming success that Una has now delivered to the IE Network 9 times and the feedback has always been positive and the clients left with a more positive and can do attitude. Una achieves this by letting those in attendance feel safe and secure with no pressure on them to open up and discuss items if they do not wish to. But this in essence provides the perfect environment for people to share, help and create and open up to new ways of thinking and viewing themselves and those around them. It is really empowering.

Una has also delivered one off seminars and workshops for the IE Network over the past 4 years in our 4 venues in Dun Laoghaire, South Dublin, Fingal and the City Centre. Again people leave these seminars feeling empowered and wanting to change.

Una Hearne has a unique delivery style and understands her clients’ needs, and translates that into delivering successful workshops, seminars and courses again and again.

“Hindsight Is Always 20:20”- Looking back at the IE Network and Designing Your Future.

Five years ago, smack bang in the middle of the economic downturn, I took voluntary redundancy from my managerial role in a telecommunications company. People said I was mad to leave a good job but I was deeply unhappy in a business that was in turmoil and felt that I was stagnating. I found myself at a crossroads; I knew what I didn’t want to do next, i.e. another role in a telecoms firm, but I wasn’t too sure what I did actually want my future career path to be.

After leaving the company I joined the Innovation and Enterprise Network which- along with a myriad of other services- facilitated the “Designing Your Future workshops” with Una Hearne. I was intrigued by the idea of three workshops which allowed you to build a vision of where you want to go in life and the opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the group dynamic of the DYF programme and was intrigued to gain others’ perspective on my vision. Coming away from the experience I felt I finally had a plan and a set of tools on how to achieve my end goal, which had been thoroughly ‘road-tested’ by my interactions with my colleagues.

The biggest learning I took from the DYF experience was the importance of knowing exactly what it is you wish to achieve. For the first time in my life I actually dedicated time and focus to this and I found a surprising degree of comfort in knowing, “Yes, this is actually what I want”. Other distractions and complications fell by the wayside and the courage of my convictions helped me to steer away from obstacles where previously I would have foundered.

Another huge life lesson for me was the realisation of my worth and all the skills and talents I had acquired over fifteen years in the working world. I no longer felt corralled into a particular industry and I focussed on sharpening my skills in my new industry of choice.

Una speaks of ‘spooky magic’ as the way things mysteriously seem to slot into place when you know what you want. I really found this to be true. Looking back on the past five years, a work placement I identified and volunteered for allowed me to gain employment in a new industry in the location I wanted. In turn this experience led me to successfully getting a job in precisely the type of company I described in my vision at the end of DYF. I even won a few awards and accolades along the way! I love my role and am challenged every day; rather than stagnating I am always learning, thriving and planning my next career step. Spooky magic indeed!

If you are thinking of participating in the Designing Your Future programme or the Innovation and Enterprise Network do not hesitate- just do it! When I look back at that period in my life I never felt ‘unemployed’; I was busy networking, learning new skills and getting my career back on track. Time that was valuable and well spent and I cannot praise the organisers highly enough. Thank you.
